well-being

There are many words that get thrown out there that many do not know the true meaning of. One of these is definitely the word well-being. We hear it in the context of many different things because our wellbeing doesn’t apply to just one area of our lives.

In general, we can say that there are four main areas of our well-being (or wellness) that are extremely important. In fact, when one is out of balance, it can cause the others to be imbalanced as well. Our physical, mental, social, spiritual, and financial well-being are all very important areas of our life. Let’s go over what each is and how a life coach can help you cultivate well-being in all areas of your life.

Physical

When you think of physical health, what comes to mind? For many, it is being fit or physically attractive. And while those can be signs of physical well-being, it’s so much more than that.

Our physical well-being also relates to how energetic we feel. How healthy we feel, from the inside and out. It’s the ability to create and be active in a life that we feel proud of.

Working with a life coach on your physical well-being is often a great step to improving your health. Together, they can help you understand your goals – is it eating healthier? Exercising more? Training for a marathon? All of those things? None of those things? Whatever your physical health looks like to you, a life coach can help you take the steps to get clear about your physical well-being goals and help you map out the baby steps to get there.

Mental And Emotional

Working with a life coach is different from counseling or therapy, although bonus points if you can find someone who is both because that can also be very helpful. With a life coach, you are discovering what your long-term goals are for your mental health and what you want out of life too. What are the mental blocks holding you back from reaching these goals and your highest potential? This is where a coach can save you a lot of time and suffering.

Anxiety and depression may come to your mind first when you hear mental well-being. Our mental well-being often indicates how happy, anxious or relaxed we may feel in life. It’s the idea that we feel balanced and grounded, in spite of the things that life throws our way. I like to think of mental well-being as the ability to be supportive to ourselves on the inside – the inner voice that we all have.

Spiritual

Our spiritual connection with the world around us is important. It’s not just the religion that we belong to or what we believe in, although certainly those are spiritual aspects of many people’s lives. Our spirituality also involves our belief in the greater good, of humanity, in life itself. Our connection with nature and animals. Spiritual well-being is what gives us the sense of community that most of us spend all of our lives seeking, but never really finding.

But what if you have found your spiritual connections and you just don’t realize it? A life coach can help you explore your spirituality and develop your spiritual well-being, in whatever ways that looks and feels right for you. Whether it is becoming more connected with your religion or beliefs, or connecting with other people in more intimate ways, or connecting with nature, life coaching for spiritual well-being can help you heal and grow.

Financial

Raise your hand if the past few years have stressed you out financially? Money is not everything, but it’s also far from nothing. Money is a necessary part of life. When we talk about financial health and financial well-being, we don’t just mean getting wealthy.

Financial well-being refers to becoming more stable in our finances AND our psychological relationship with money so that we can feel balanced in our finances. Financial well-being is not about a number in a bank account. It is about how you feel in your life and the relationship you have with money. What does your personal financial well-being look like? A life coach can help you explore and map this out.

A financial life coach can help you determine how to become financially stable enough to reach your long-term goals, which also helps ot reduce anxiety in the long run. What will it cost you to open your own business? Or to start your own charity? Or to feel safe? And then, what is safety to you? Financial well-being coaching helps you to answer these questions.

A Life Coach Helps You Find Balance

No matter what you need support with, a life coach can be the cheerleader you need and more importantly teach you how to be your own cheerleader.

The person there to give you constructive feedback (and teach you to do this yourself) as well as provide gentle reminders (and accountability) that you can accomplish great things as long as you become clear about what it is you want to accomplish AND takes steps towards your goals.
